In a refreshing interview with Beauty in the Bag, Rockstar Dermatologist Dr. Wendy Roberts shares her accomplishments as former President of The Women’s Dermatologic Society, how she became and continued her passion as a dermatologist, her latest innovations to the world of cosmetics, and how she’s taking care of her own skin. And of course, there’s also that bit on what’s inside her bag.
Like all kids, Double Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Roberts first discovered her lifetime passion while playing as a child. She acted out as a “natural chemist” by mixing together potions and doing dog facials. From then on, she knew that doing something with surgery and microscope work on a daily basis would be very fascinating – hence, dermatology!
True enough, she later on became a Dermatologist and has proven in many occasions and endeavors to be an extraordinary kind of a skin physician.
One of her impressive feats is when she became President of The Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS), an organization that supports and nurtures the professional growth of female dermatologists. During her term as President, Dr. Roberts dedicated all her time to fulfilling the organization’s mission and preparing for increased organizational growth. WDS became the third largest Dermatology organization in America during her term, and furthermore reached out overseas to increase global membership from among 25 countries.
For Dr. Roberts, WDS represents all that is special and unique in Dermatology. The members are not only physicians, but also “mothers, wives, business owners, professors, and leaders in their communities”. At the same time, the Society caters well to her equal thirsts for continuous learning and for the opportunity to share knowledge and abilities with others. Indeed, in WDS, the members would learn from each other by mentoring, networking and performing service across the country.
One of the WDS initiatives she is very much proud to have started during her term was “Play Safe in the Sun Skin Cancer Screening” in 2004. In that activity, it saw numerous Dermatologists volunteering their time across the country at tennis and golf venues where they performed free skin cancer screening for many people who may not ever had their skin examined. Needless to say, it was a national service courtesy of her humble organization in WDS. As a former officer today, Dr. Roberts continues to be enthusiastic and supportive with WDS – such as her active participation in WDS initiative called “SOS Save Our Skin”, which is to further healthy living and lifestyles.
“I will remain a cheerleader for WDS encouraging Dermatologists both men and women to get involved,” Dr. Roberts tells Beauty in the Bag.
In the interview, Dr. Roberts also relates her personal quest to improve dermatology as practice. She has developed a new method (Roberts Skin Type Classification System) to know how one’s skin will respond when subjected to any type of damage, how a person’s ancestry can affect his skin, Generational profile service, among other things. On a more personal note, Dr. Roberts reveals that she likens her personal skincare routine to caring for a thriving garden. She consistently cleans her skin, gets rid of old skin, hydrates with lots of water, provides essential nutrients like active moisturizers and topical vitamins, and protects her skin from the sometimes harsh environment. While her daily beauty regimen is seemingly simple, it provides for her a beautiful, healthy skin cells.
When asked what’s inside her bag, Dr. Roberts gamely declares to Beauty in the Bag the following items:
*Cleanser-Clarisonic brush with LRP beads
*Active C by La Roche-Posay
*Vitivia Vitamin E capsules by JSJ Pharmaceuticals
*Dermablend makeup with Givenchy shimmer prism

And, by the way, her favorite bag is Gucci Gold.
