What Should You Avoid During Sclerotherapy Recovery?

As you continue to get older, your blood vessels weaken and you become increasingly likely to develop varicose veins on your legs. At Dr. Wendy E. Roberts in Rancho Mirage, California, we can remove these damaged veins by giving you sclerotherapy treatments. This vein removal technique is gentle, and your sclerotherapy recovery will be very short and easy.

What Should You Avoid During Sclerotherapy Recovery?

During your sclerotherapy treatment, we will use a special solution to collapse your damaged veins. After your veins collapse, they will turn into scar tissue and gradually disappear. Since this technique is minimally invasive, your sclerotherapy recovery will be very brief. Although you will be able to go into your office and continue performing your household duties, we will instruct you to temporarily avoid some activities.

Don’t Take Hot Showers

You should not take a very hot bath or shower for at least seven days after you receive your sclerotherapy treatment. You will also need to avoid going into saunas and steam rooms for three to five days.

Avoid Sitting for Prolonged Periods

You should not stand or sit for very long periods of time during your sclerotherapy recovery. If you are required to stand at your job, you will need to take frequent breaks. If you spend long periods sitting in front of a computer, you should periodically get up and walk around.

Don’t Fly

You shouldn’t get on an airplane for one week after your treatment session.

Avoid Intense Exercise

Although we may encourage you to take a short walk after you receive your treatment, we will instruct you to avoid vigorous physical activities during your recovery period. In particular, you should not take a very difficult exercise class or go running for three to five days.

How Long Does a Sclerotherapy Treatment Take?

This is a very efficient treatment. In general, it will take us about 15 to 30 minutes to treat your varicose veins. You will receive this vein treatment at our comfortable office in Rancho Mirage.

Will You Need To Receive Multiple Sclerotherapy Sessions?

The length of your treatment plan will be designed to match the condition of your varicose veins. If you have a few damaged veins on your legs, we may be able to treat all of your varicose veins during one appointment. If you have a large number of varicose veins, you will probably need to get multiple sclerotherapy sessions. We can provide more information about the total length of your treatment plan after we have taken a look at your varicose veins.

In general, you will achieve your cosmetic goals after you receive two to five treatments. Since your sclerotherapy recovery will last for a brief period of time, you will be able to easily fit all of your vein treatments into your busy schedule.

How Quickly Will This Treatment Work?

Although your varicose veins will have a unique reaction to your initial sclerotherapy session, you should not expect to see immediate changes in your appearance. Instead, your varicose veins will usually begin to improve during the next six weeks. At this point, you should consider visiting our office in Rancho Mirage for a follow-up appointment.

During this meeting, we can analyze your response to your initial treatment. If you are interested in achieving additional improvements in your veins, we can perform another sclerotherapy session at this time.

Will This Treatment Permanently Eliminate Damaged Veins?

Your sclerotherapy sessions will permanently remove some of your varicose veins. These veins will not reappear on your legs. However, you may develop new varicose veins and other vascular issues in the years after you complete your treatment plan.

If you would like to lower your risk of experiencing vein problems in the future, you should try to control your weight and follow a regular exercise program. In addition, we may instruct you to wear compression stockings. Wearing these stocks can be a good way to enhance your blood flow and prevent additional varicose veins from appearing on your legs.

Can You Use Other Methods to Fix Vein Problems?

In addition to performing sclerotherapy treatments, we can use a vein laser to improve your vascular issues. The type of vein treatment that you receive will depend on the size, number, and location of your weakened veins. We will analyze your varicose veins during your initial meeting with us. After we have examined your veins, we will choose a good treatment for you.

If your varicose veins are very large, we may advise you to get a vein laser treatment in addition to your sclerotherapy session. Using two methods to address your weakened veins will allow us to achieve more dramatic improvements in your vascular issues.

Treat Your Vascular Issues

Bulging varicose veins can cause you to have swelling issues, itchy sensations, and other uncomfortable physical symptoms. These large, twisted veins also diminish the appearance of your legs. Receiving sclerotherapy treatments will allow you to eliminate these veins, get rid of the uncomfortable symptoms, and get back the look you want. If you are interested in receiving this vein treatment, contact us at Dr. Wendy E. Roberts in Rancho Mirage, California.
