Varicose Veins? Why You Should Consider Sclerotherapy

Varicose Veins? Why You Should Consider Sclerotherapy

Varicose veins may make you feel embarrassed about wearing shorts, skirts, and other articles of clothing that show off your legs. In addition to making you feel self-conscious about your legs, these damaged veins can cause burning sensations and other unpleasant physical feelings. At Dr. Wendy E. Roberts in Rancho Mirage, California, we can use a gentle treatment called sclerotherapy to fix these weakened blood vessels.

Varicose Veins? Why You Should Consider Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive technique that can minimize and remove spider veins and varicose veins from your hands, legs, and other areas of your body. During your session, we will inject a special solution into your damaged blood vessels. This solution will cause your injured veins to collapse.

Over time, these veins will become less noticeable or disappear. There are a number of reasons why you should consider using this treatment to improve the condition of your veins.

A Gentle Method

You don’t have to go to the hospital to improve your veins. We will complete this vein treatment in our beautiful office in Rancho Mirage. Since this technique is very comfortable, you don’t need to receive general anesthesia before we inject our solution into your veins. In addition, this is a quick process that usually takes us about 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

Minimal Downtime

There’s no need for you to spend days at home after you use this treatment to eliminate your damaged veins. Instead, you will be able to get up and take a short walk immediately after you receive your injections.

That said, we will advise you not to take part in high-intensity activities like indoor rowing or sprinting for the next three to five days. In addition, you will need to avoid using steam rooms and saunas, smoking cigarettes, and eating foods that contain too much sodium during this time.

Why Have My Veins Become Weak and Damaged?

Although anyone can develop weakened veins, there are a number of characteristics that will increase your risk of suffering from this issue. In particular, if you are a woman, you are more likely to develop varicose veins. Further, going through pregnancy puts extra stress on the vascular system. This additional stress can lead to varicose veins and other vascular issues.

As you age, you will become increasingly susceptible to this problem. This is because the valves in your blood vessels become weaker and more vulnerable over time. Hormonal changes during menopause can also lead to vein issues. Further, if your close relatives suffered from vein issues, you will be more likely to develop similar vascular problems during your lifetime.

When Will My Damaged Veins Improve?

This treatment will not create immediate improvements in your varicose and spider veins. Instead, it will take some time for your body to process and remove your collapsed veins. In general, your damaged veins should become less noticeable within about six weeks.

How Many Vein Treatments Will I Receive?

The number of sclerotherapy treatments that you receive will depend on the amount of spider and varicose veins that you have, the size of your damaged veins, and other variables. In general, you will need to receive two to five treatments to remove your damaged blood vessels. Receiving multiple vein treatments can be a good way to completely eliminate your spider and varicose veins.

How Long Will My Results Last?

This vein treatment provides permanent results, and your body will not regrow the varicose and spider veins that were removed during your treatments. That said, this treatment cannot prevent your body from creating new spider and varicose veins in the future.

To reduce your chances of developing additional vein issues, you should consider wearing compression stockings. These special stockings can improve the blood flow in your legs. In addition, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising frequently, and elevating your legs can reduce your risk of experiencing vein problems.

Will This Treatment Remove Necessary Veins From My Body?

Many people worry that this treatment will damage your blood flow by eliminating necessary veins. This worry is not justified.

Since your varicose and spider veins are damaged, your blood will have difficulty moving through these weakened vessels. When we collapse these vessels, your blood will start to flow through healthy veins in your treatment area. Your blood will flow smoothly through these strong, undamaged blood vessels.

Can I Combine This Treatment With Other Vein Removal Techniques?

If your damaged veins are thick and large, you might benefit from receiving sclerotherapy in connection with another vein treatment. For example, we can combine this treatment with a vein laser. Using both of these techniques during your appointment will create significant changes in your weakened veins.

When you have your initial consultation at our office in Rancho Mirage, we will look at the damaged veins on your hands, legs, and other locations on your body. We will let you know if you should consider using a combination of techniques to improve your veins.

Eliminate Your Varicose Veins

Varicose veins can cause you to feel burning sensations, muscle cramps, throbbing feelings, and other unpleasant physical symptoms. In addition, these damaged veins will make you feel unhappy about the appearance of your legs. Sclerotherapy is a well-established, proven treatment that can eliminate these weakened blood vessels.
