“Play Safe in the Sun” may sound like a title of a kiddie theater play, but it isn’t. It is not a mother’s regular reminder to her children, either. It is actually the name of a national outreach skin cancer screening program which is founded in 2004 by Dr. Wendy Roberts, while she was still a member of the Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS).
The Rancho Mirage-based dermatologist is currently the President of WDS. The screening program is unique in that it travels to LPGA tournaments (competitions among professional lady golfers) to provide Sun Safety education and skin cancer screenings – all for free.
The program is in line with Dr. Roberts’ professional and personal advocacies regarding the danger of unprotected exposure to both UVA and UVB rays – no matter the color of your skin is. At the same time, the program is geared for all those people who have been regularly exposed to solar heat without sunscreen protection, and yet failed for a long time to have their skin evaluated by a skin professional.
Having said that, the multi-awarded dermatologist in Dr. Roberts believes that there is no need to avoid the sun like a scourge, if only you do not forget to take precautionary measures such as proper sunscreen protection, you may still indeed “Play Safe in the Sun”.
Aside from her titles as “Rockstar Dermatologist” and “Top Doctor”, the board-certified surgeon Dr. Roberts is also very active in accredited dermatology organizations. Among her former stints include being the president of the State of California Dermatologic Society (Calderm) and as a committee member to the 2008 American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Nominating Committee. She was also appointed to the Stanford University Medical Alumnae Board Governors to which she currently serves.
Her dermatology works are highly regarded in such procedures, among others, as Chemical Peels, Dermal Fillers, Fractional Laser, Microdermabrasion, Scar Removal, and Liquid Face Lift. Dr. Roberts’ personal practice motto is “Leave no stone unturned until the solution for a specific skin problem is found.”
